Toby Michael (b. 1996) is a figurative painter from Buckinghamshire.
'My work consists of single and multi-figure compositions that are quiet and self-reflective. I believe that there is something universal and archetypal in the figure isolated and introspective, especially within the context of others. While we are social animals it is often the case that our interactions are limited by hierarchy and our own anxieties' - Toby Michael
He is a classically trained artist, who learnt his craft through self teaching and receiving mentor-ship from Florence Academy Alumni Toby M Wright, Joe Altwer and Amy Florence.
He attended the Winchester School of Art (2015-18), winning the Clyde Hopkins Award for Valorous Painting for his degree show.
Since graduating Toby has been taking commissions and selling his self-directed work to private collectors, alongside providing private tuition for artists.
He participated in both the 2019 and 2020 series of Sky Portrait Artist of the year, becoming a finalist in the latter.
